XPO developed an AI-powered voice chatbot that initiates proactive outbound calls to delivery recipients the moment a driver departs for their address. Built on natural language processing, the system queries Google Maps in real time to calculate a precise ETA, then places a personalized automated call informing the recipient of the exact expected arrival time — without human intervention. Recipients can interact with the system to replay the message or cancel the delivery; cancellations are instantly relayed to the driver, allowing route adjustments before wasted travel occurs. The chatbot was layered on top of XPO's existing WhatsApp tracking infrastructure, adding bidirectional communication to a channel that had previously been read-only. The solution was developed internally and deployed across all last-mile routes in Spain and Portugal.
