What Tillamook was trying to fix

In food distribution, the shipper carries the burden of proof and is presumed guilty until proven innocent for every overage, shortage and damage (OS&D) claim, and even rare claims can be expensive. Tillamook delivered strong operational performance in 2024 with 99.6% inventory accuracy, but the dock doors were still a visibility gap. Warehouse operators had no way to consistently verify what was leaving each of the seven dock doors.

What Tillamook deployed

In December 2024, Tillamook deployed Kargo at 100% of the outbound dock doors at its Tillamook, OR site, and Kargo's camera towers now capture SKUs, LPNs and lot codes as pallets are loaded onto the trailer. The towers flag damaged cases, broken pallets, unexpected SKUs and short-shelf or on-hold pallets in real time. Tillamook's warehouse management system sends expected orders to Kargo, which compares what the towers read against each order. Integration started with flat file transfers over SFTP and was completed in a matter of weeks.

Results

According to Kargo's case study, Tillamook avoided $173,000 in customer fees and chargebacks in 2025 and refuted 42 customer claims with photo and sensor evidence captured at the dock. Damage claims fell 50% year over year because damaged cases were caught at the dock instead of at the customer's receiving door, and inventory accuracy rose from 99.6% in 2024 to 99.8% in 2025.

Key Takeaways

  • Put cameras at the dock door to catch damage and order mismatches before product leaves the building.
  • Keep photo and sensor evidence from the dock so disputed claims can be answered with proof.
  • Start the warehouse system integration with simple file transfers to get live quickly.
